I made a lineout adapter for my ipod! A female of the dog species to get those itty bitty pins soldered, but worth it.

jhammer, I think you should get an amo for your headphones. One that is REALLY well priced (And, on DX) for under $20 is the FiiO E5. It has really good reviews, especially with lineout. I had one for a while, but lost it before I got to test it. So, I have another coming right now.

Ever seen the "imod"? It involves upgrading the caps on the audio line and hooking line up straight to that... Nobody has done an ipod touch yet, might be worth it.

As for headphones, I am trading my PX100s to Bibin for a pair of Bang & Olufsen Form 2s with busted headband, he claims they are awesome. They retail for $99, so I will see.

dunno about new B&O stuff but my Beogram CDX CD player is bloody fantastic! i was gonna get a pair of portapros at one time, would you reccomend them? i missed a chance to snag a pair at an auction not long ago, but it was in the 30s and windy that day and an outdoor auction (missed out on a brass bed too! )

I'm a loser -- I use a pair of these Philips headphones. They're really pretty nice for what I need, though (mainly PSP use). For cheap headphones, they're great. Might upgrade to some nicer ones later on, though.

YES! They are really amazing, and for the size, put out a lot of bass. Not a good set if you want to block out noise though.

Other than that, I love mine.

The difference in quality through my stereo is HUGE, as the stereo is made to work with lineout level signals. A lot of more modern equipment is made for heaadphone output, with volume equalizers and such, but those screw with the sound, too. The bass has more body, and the Waaaay high up treble that used to sound weak, sounds crisp and well defined.

What do you mean "final output"?

Worth it? Well, it took me 3 cables to get working, two generic $2 cheapies from DX, and one genuine apple one. Now that I have done it, though, I think I could pull it off first try.

Basically, you tear apart the USB connector, and there are 4 little pins slotted into the right spots for USB. You pretty much just have to pull those out, and carefully re-insert them into pins 1,2,3, and 4. 1 and 2 are connected internally, so you really only need one (They are both ground). I would just use pin 1, gives you a little more spacing from the right and left pins. Pin 3 is right channel, pin 4 is left channel. Then, I took a spare female headphone jack cable I had, and just soldered the wires to the right places. Then, I covered the wires in hotglue, made sure it still worked, then filled pretty much the whole connector case with hotglue, and smashed it together. When it was cooled, I trimmed off all the excess hot glue that gushed out, an there you have it!

I will not be making another for myself till this one breaks/I get bored, do you mean as in making some for sale? I might do that. I just need to order some other stuff from DX, along with 5 or so USB cables (I might make one to try and sell on ebay, those things sell for $40! Granted, they are using super awesome wire, but for this short of a distance, it does not matter, and a lot of people know that... I mean, all the traces on the PCB going to the dock connector are just generic cheap copper, anyways.

One more tip: The Apple Universal dock that CLAIMS lineout is a lie. They pull lineout, then send it through an op amp and an equalizer! I pulled the thing apart to make sure. Also, Apple put a big chunk of steel in mine. Know what it does? Nothing, just makes it feel heavier. Come on, guys! Gotta love paying extra for the Apple "Quality advantage!"
