Best way to cut up an SNES controller (No 56k)

I've got an extra first party SNES controller I want to hack up to use as the controller in my portable. I was wondering what the best way to do this would be. Are there certain places that are more beneficial to cut (easier to rewire)?



It'd be really helpful if someone could take this pic and repost it with lines showing where to cut, lots of n00bs would love you (myself included)

It all depends on your personal case design and how much of the original controler you use. You can take that IC chip off and just use tacts or rubber tacts to replicate the controler or you can just cut entire chunks off it and connect them. Theres a million and a half ways to do it.

That's true. I forgot about that. I'd like to wire the pieces together to use the controller as-is. Rather than going out and buying more pieces to make my own.

Nice. I too was looking for information such as this. This will be extremely helpful when I place the controller inside my case (soon I hope). I have one quick question though: What is the best way to cut up the board? Dremel? X-acto? Thanks.

Either way. If you're using a Dremel, make sure you wear a dust mask or something. Those controller boards put off a fine powdery dust that you probably shouldn't be breathing into your lungs. I don't know about you guys, but I prefer copper flakes to be on the outside of my body.

If you use an X-Acto knife or a box knife, make sure you score the board enough times on both the front and back to make a clean break when you snap it apart. I've made the mistake of not scoring it enough times to make a deep enough cut so that when I snapped it apart, it broke in places I didn't want it to.

I used an x-acto to get a groove started then used my pocket knife to make the groove deeper when I was trimming my screen, that worked well for because I could get a bit more force behind the pocket knife than my little x-acto. But definitely make sure it's deep enough because as LOB said, you don't want it breaking in other places.

Yeah, I was using the dremel doing some case work last night without a mask on; I think I'm still sneezing and coughing out bondo. Gotta get one of those masks...

Yeah, but I had the controller and didn't want to go buy the extra parts to make my own. I rather use the official controller anyway so it has that same feel to it.
