Gameboy Color Controller

Now i am new to electronics and i get the basics... my idea is: I play my game boy emulator a lot and i want that gameboy feel so.. Using a keyboard brain chip thing i want to set my gameboy keypress up to the keyboard and then to the computer. So DpadUp=Keyboardup A=Z so then i can play my emulator with my gameboy. Opinions

Gameboy = Keyboard = Computer = RetroFeel

I originally got the idea from the frets on fire/guitar hero guitar thing and ithough 'i can do this with my gameboy'

This is easily possible.

I would also buy a 2.5" VGA moniter, put that in the gameboy, so you can have it all router to the gameboy. That way, you can even have that retro "feel". You know, the feel of hunching over a gameboy staring at a small screen.

Because im new to electronics i was wondering if you could help me. With the positive (+5v) and negative (GND) do i destroy the ground and replace it to the keyboard/keypad?

you could just use a NES controller, or better yet a snes controller for L and R on GBA games.

for the diy, basically, find that keyboard guide online that shows which combinations of traces press what keys, scrach the hell out of the traces where you need to, and solder it all togeather, I'd use the original board for that authentic feel, but make sure the wires arn't in the way of anything

This is the first mod i've ever done and i was thinking of the nes controller... but i want that gameboy controller feel. and plus... i've got broken calculator the the L and R button tracers.

UPDATE: Got a keyboard todayand got it open as soon as i got home. Unfortunately it was ps/2 (I couldnt return it because it was apparenty defined by a microsopic blue dot on the back of the box that it was ps/2 not usb) Any im just going to buy a converter and put it in there. I need to tin the contacts and the soldering iron i thought existed doesnt so i need a new one. Getting a soldering iron on wednesday and progress will continue

The LEDS are for the CAPS NUMLOCk and SCROLLLOCK functions. (Oh by the way, im going to put an LED between the connector and the board so that when plugged in you can tell its plugged in.

Im an idiot. I am no longer using the gameboy internal at all just using PCB mount tactile switches connected to the keyboard chip.

QUESTION: Do pcb mount tactile switches need to be mounted on a PCB to pass a signal through or is what im doing ok?

If I were to do this I would take a cheap USB gamepad, integrate it to the GBC buttons and use a program called xpadder to map the gamepad buttons to keyboard keys.

That is pretty much what i am doing except I am using the common controls of the emulator i use. Plus i already have this stuff lying around and considering im 14 and cant get a job... money is an issue.

But the real money comes from fixing sad ipods on ebay and selling them for $2-300 profits.
