Milwaukee Lingo

Post by Turknatr12 »

It has come to my attention that my new girlfriend is from a different area of the state, and it bothers me that they call certain objects different names. Here are some examples:

Key: Name = Milwaukee Termanology

Drinking Fountain = Bubbler

Parents = Rents

Remote = Clicker

Game Console = Station

Any Sugary Beverage = Soda (not pop)

If anybody else can think of any, I think it is interesting.

I guess if you need a money transfer (ATM Machine) you ask for the Time(tyme) Machine

that and during MGC I went with my folks to a Speakeasy and was asked if we wanted a beg (bag) for our leftovers.

Rhode Islandede Crash Course (It's kinda similar but with a different accent ):

Quahog (ko-hog) - Clam. You probably figured this out from Family Guy. Image

Chowdah - Thick soup made from clams. Rhode Island's second-favorite liquid food, behind lemonade slush. It has to be the white kind, not the thin red New Yawk kind, That isn't chowdah, that's warta.

Bubbla - Ceramic or stainless steel fixture that dispenses warta for drinkin.

Grindah - You get them at Subway or Quizno's.

Woosta - The town of Worcester. Contrary to popular belief, it's NOT "Wor-chester".

Cah - Lodge metal vehicle, used to display vanity plates.

Lodge - Not small.

Prizna - Most former mayors of P'tucket.

Fye-uh - What you get when you strike a match.

Warta - The oceans are made of it.

Cabinet - Cawfee.

Soda - Cahbinated beverages, like Pepsi and Sprite.

Oh yeah

My favorite words from where I am at is:

FYA or Fiya (Fire)- Some Good Stuff (ie: Food, Drugs, Music)

House - To eat REALLY REALLY Quickly, As in To House Something.

Edit: Oh yeah some Examples:

FYA- "Man, This Is Some FYA Noodles
House- "Man, YOU HOUSED THEM NOODLES"

It's not I who has lingo, it's the rest of the world.

Canada Geese = Geese?

erm...

I wouldn't know anything I say is weird unless somebody told me so.

We've been over this, but aparently in the states rockets are smarties, and smarties are nothing.

You're really missing out. M&M's are a pile of cheap crap. Smarties are godly.

Uhmmm...

Yeah I got nothing. Insult my Canadian ways, and I'll rebuttle.

Your first link is broken, y'know.

I like the Ce De Smarties a lot, actually. Even if they all taste the same, they're still good.

I call soft drinks "sodas," but to my knowledge, it's the only word I say that has regional variations as discussed in this thread.

Where I'm from. Gameboy. It sucks, because I never know what console they are talking about when they say, "I sat down and played my gameboy last night."

But on the contrary... your candy is awesome compared to ours. We're also lacking Aero bars, and our Kit Kats aren't as good. Damn those Aeros are good, though! I stock up whenever I cross the border.

I miss Canada. I wanna go back. Sometime this summer, I'll have to go to Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay, or Winnipeg: the only major cities a reasonable distance away.

My cousin in Ireland sent us some Aero bars with a bunch of other candy. They were awesome.

Let's see what I can say

Blackberry: Cell Phone
Geek: Anyone who knows how to use the computer besides facebook and myspace
Poor: Anyone who can't afford a nice car as a senior or designer clothes
Sheep: Someone who blindly follows anyone else

I'll think of more later
I haven't been here in awhile, and looking back it's one of the worst ideas I ever had. I'm back and I'll be here for awhile, I was quite active 1 year ago and I hope to become that again.

Thats a universal term.

It's not really a cultural thing
