I need your opinion

I swear I made a post like this yesterday night but, I cant find it. Oh Well It was late maybe I didn't. Well I have decided i would make a portable. There is one problem though I cant choose to pick between the PS1p or the N64p. I wanted to build either portable just for experience so i could build a better portable I would enjoy more. I wanted to build the PS1p because I wanted to have a trilogy with a PS1p, PS2p and PS3 laptop(I know it will take a while). I wanted to build the N64 for a trilogy thing also.I would not really play the system I would just sell it so I could make my dream portable(PS2P). Please help me decide which one i should pick. Also how much would it cost to make them. Also, how much could I sell them for.( Please base price on something well made. I have a really cool case idea)

I'll give you pros and cons.

PSOne

Pros = doesn't fry as easily as N64
(Can't think of any more since I'm not a Playstation junkie, maybe others can fill in)

Cons = uses discs instead of cartridges and has a complicated controller.

N64

Pros = uses cartridges, has zelda

Cons = fries easily, uses heatsinks, has that dumb expansion port

But in my opinion... I wouldn't use either of these for your first portable. I used the N64 but doing something like the NES (don't think the big nes from the past, the small ones you get on ebay (they're smaller than a game inside )) would be a lot easier.

thanks but i want something hard and a friend of mine has both the N64 ans psone so it would be cheaper for me.

The PSone is horrible for a first portable, the N64 is hard but doable. You should be okay if you are careful and not too ambitious.

Oh ok y is the ps1 bad as a first. If it is becauuse it is hard I like a challenge. I also have h book and I can follo that. But for the n64 I don't have a book. What do you think.

I think you should type like an actual person, and not a prep.

Go for the n64 if you like a challenge. The hardest challenge about it is relocating the cartslot, and you don't even have to do that. The n64 board is well labled and skyone and harshboy made a nice diagram for it

The PS1 is harder because of the disc drive. But here's the final tie-breaker question worth 90 points:

Which system do you enjoy the most?

PSone:

+ Its games are more portable (you can fit about 20 discs in a stack the approximate volume of an N64 cartridge)
+ It can also be a portable media player (plays audio CDs by itself, can probably run VCDs or MPEG-2s with a mod or boot CD)
+ No messing around with expansion packs
+ Only needs 1 voltage (7.5v in)
+ Motherboard's smaller than the N64's. (At least, to my knowledge it is.)
+ Outlined in the book

- It's more difficult to make a disc drive than a cartridge slot
- May or may not use more power (amps)

N64

+ Cartridges hold up to portable use better
+ Cartridge slots are easier to build
+ No load times (squeeze more useful time out of a charge)

- Relocating cartridge slots is tedious (solder about 100 wires at both ends), and extending them too far / incorrectly can cause glitches
- More complicated power (I think it needs 2 or 3 different voltages to work properly
- You have to deal with the expansion packs


In the end it's up to you. Which one do you like better? (Don't just go with "oh I'll do X because it's harder", that doesn't make much sense. )

One disadvantage to the PSone is that it uses a CD drive; so when you are holding the system while playing it, the portable viabrates a bit, which feels a bit strange. Loading times for the PS1 games can be a little laggy too; using a cartridge system you don't get either issues. Making a CD drive compartment to insert and remove CD's is much harder than securing a cart slot in place to take a cartridge.
