Yes, you shouldn't burn them out. Hook them up to a resistor just to be safe.

I got a couple old 5 1/4" floppy cables free from a local repair shop. Ribbon cables are nothing more than copper wires glued together, so any type of ribbon wire should be fine.

Ya but the book said i need regular, not hardrive, ribbon cable. Where can i find that?

Does it say anything aboutr floppy drive wire?

Or you could use telephone wire, and a lot of it.

I don't understand why you can't use HD wire in a portable. I'll start a new thread about it in Forum 42.

No, I think it says "regulator" ribbon cable. I just need to know if it can hold enough current to power everything, with the exception of the analog sticks. I have Hard Drive cable, but not "Regulator" cable. I am really getting confussed

you cannot use new sata hard drive cable that has 80 pins you need to use the kind with 40 pins old ribbon cable

The kind i bought has 50 wires, and had 6 or 7 plugs i snipped off. i bought it from some crazy guy in my neighborhood computer store. If you could give me what kind i need (Specific name) i would buy it.

you cant buy it anymore. Well not new. Its standard ide cable.not sata cable not super happy fujn ide cable ect. Black plugs and 40 wires floppy cable works too

floppy and hard drive are different. Ae the connecers colered? are there 80 wires across? if you answerd yees to either one you got the wrong kind on cable

Pretty much, except for the number of pins and wires. (The twist in floppy cables is used by the pc to determine which floppy is A: and which is B:.
