Planning on building a PS3 laptop.
Ok I'll start out by saying that,
1. I know this won't be easy you silly noob
2. Parts will cost LOTS of money.
Yeah I know and I'm fully aware, I don't expect it to be easy and I don't really care how much it costs. I'm currently stationed in Iraq and I have all the time and money I need to complete this project and I'm not a complete noob, I only done small things, but I've repaired quite a few xboxs and modded them as well as PS2s. I work in a commo shop and everyone I work with here is pretty good with soldering and working with stuff like this, so I will have lots of great help. I plan on fully building a diagram of everything I need to get started and I want to have all my facts straight before I start.
So my first question is
1. The case is built with Sintra Plastic I think, these come in square sheets and my question is how do I get the neat rounded edges that you see on so many of Bens projects?

Re: Planning on building a PS3 laptop.
First off, thank you for your service to our country.
This is certainly an ambitious project. Ben, who does this professionally, took a year and a half to make his. With determination and help, it IS possible. Just don't expect it to look as professional as Ben's.

He'll probably get one shipped over along with all of the other parts he's not going to find in Iraq.
You can make it look just as good as Ben's if you use CNC.

Iraq is much different than you guys might expect. We actually have exchange stores here on our bases where we have all kinds of stuff like a mini wal mart kinda lol. So getting the parts won't be hard, minus a few that I will order online and have shipped here. I don't have access to a CNC machine

You'll want to look into vacuum-forming then. It looks like fun - hoping to try it myself soon.
By the way, what's the time difference?

You sure you can make a vac former? It's pretty easy to do, even if you only have access to a junk yard.

yeah, it's like: oven, wood, saw, drill, caulking, tape, vacuum, styrene plastic... if you wanted to make a super cheap, but usable vac former.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

that would be pretty heavy to have a metal case, though.

Re: Planning on building a PS3 laptop.
Ok I'm ready to start ordering everything I need to build the PS3 laptop. The bad thing is that Ben hasn't posted the rest of the tutorials yet on how to do this. So I'm going to order everything I need including tools so that I can get started and I'm sure between me and the guys here we can work something out. But I'm really curious about what do order, here is a list of what I KNOW I will need. If anyone else can think of anything else I need please let me know. Also if anyone has the rest of the tutorial on how to do this I would appreciate it.
1. PS3
2. Screen
3. Plexiglass
4. Dremel
5. Exacto Knives
6. Gluegun
7. Soldering Iron
8. Screwdrivers,
9. DeSoldering Iron
10. Desoldering Bulb
11. Desoldering Wick
12. Lots of Solder
13. Tweezers
14. Pencils and markers
15. Needle Nose Plyers
16. Small wire cutters
These are just the basics, but I know there is more. Please help me out.
*EDIT*

Re: Planning on building a PS3 laptop.
Screwdrivers, soldering iron, desoldering iron, desoldering bulb, desoldering wick (braid), Pencil, Markers, lots of solder, that's all I can think of, but I probably missed a couple big ones.
Edit: I forgot needle nosed pliers and lots of different shaped wire cutters. They are the tools I use most, second to my soldering iron.

Re: Planning on building a PS3 laptop.
your gonna need like 3 laptop batteries Lol if you want to play for more than like 3 hours im guessing. (im just guessing i really don't know) Your gonna have to find out how much power it needs and where it needs it. The video out should be simple enough though. But power, system, screen, case, and mods are all what make a portable a portable. You have 2 of the 5 3 if you dont want anything extra on your PS3 (is there even any mods for it?).

Re: Planning on building a PS3 laptop.
Batteries are not a viable form of power for PS3 and 360. Don't even bother. A 20lb battery pack would last you like, 45 minutes.
