desoldering gamecube memory card ports?

Post by stuntpenguin007 »

I decided I was going to make a Dream-Cube today, It's a gamecube inside of a dreamcast shell. anyways I'm going to desolder those useless serial ports on the bottom of the motherboard and I'm going to desolder the 2 memory card ports and replace them with 1 sd card slot on the side.

when I took my desoldering braid to it, it sucked up some solder but not enough for me to pull off the port. any suggestions?

also I'm going to bondo the plastic holes shut on the back of the dreamcast so I can make it fit a nintendo av cord as well as the cd tray so the gamecube drive will fit flush, or at least somewhat. What kind of bondo do I use for that, and where can I buy some?

thanks. I hope I'm able to finish this project.

Last I checked, you can only use an SD card via the memory card slot for homebrew.

So, I think you will still needs one.

You can only use sd cards for putting homebrew on your gamecube. Other than that, you can't use it as a memory card. Although, there is homebrew to transfer saves from your gamecube memory card to your sd card. But you can't use it during a game.

EDIT: dang palmer, you beat me

Solder one back on?

Reminds me of the time I asked if I could replace a GBO polarizer, then tried anyways. When I read people saying it could not be done, I fairly shat myself. Turned out I could, though, so nothing too bad. :P

I would make an internal memory card, right up against the board, and use the second one with an SD slot to move saves on and off if you need to.

ok, I'll do that. but I can't soloder it back on, I ripped it off and wiggled the little pin things that were left behind until they fell off.

so just to be sure I'm understanding this...
1. Solder a memory card inside of the dream-cube
2. Solder on an SD port to the other side
3. Then I won't be able to save games to the sd card but I can still transfer gamesaves to it from the internal memory card?
