Laptop LCD in C64p?
Am I wrong in assuming that the ultra coooool commodore 64 portable that Ben built has a laptop lcd? I was under the impression that you needed a digital output to use an existing laptop screen. I can see from an XBOX 360 standpoint that you could prolly make that work as I believe it has digital outputs natively. Seems like the C64 would have been analog (or is there some hack using the RGB out?)

He's a noob.
Uh, duh?
No, you can't even use laptop screens. I don't know how many times that has been established. Look in the stickys, why don't ya?

Rare cases.64M320N3 wrote:No, you can't even use laptop screens.
You also "can't use DVD Player screens", for about the same reason, yet we still do occasionally when we find the appropriate DVD player with the appropriate controller in it.
Most of the time though, yeah, you can't.
You know I'm surprised it isn't explained how to use DVD Player/Laptop/Other LCD's for this kind of thing...
Because it can be done in many cases, it's just not 100% straight-forward.
But regardless, that wasn't a Laptop LCD in the C64 laptop...

IT shoudl be said that LCDs with the proper controller boards can be used. Go over to Lum,enLabs and then you'll find a site with many sized HD LCD panels, with controllers for inputs that handle RCA, to HDMI.

Has a few sizes there.
All are widescreen though. Smallest is 7.2, then 12.1 then 15.4.

Re: Laptop LCD in C64p?
It was actually the sheer size of it that had me under the impression that it was a laptop lcd. Most of the writeups I have read on here are using small hand held tv screens or ps1 screens, seeign something with the dimensions that the c64p display had (plus the fact that its housed in the cool custom built laptop looking case) I was mainly hoping that there was some trick that worked with the 64 that wasn't possible with the consoles

Re: Laptop LCD in C64p?
Do we know what kind of LCD it IS? If it's NOT a laptop screen (which I know is pretty much impossible without an extremely complicated controller board) then what is it? I'd like to start building an 8-bit computer laptop, and I'd hate to ruin it with a 6-7" screen.
