What LEDs to use in the ps1 screen.

ok so i broke the screen transformer so i don't have any backlight (stupid screwdriver )

So i'll have to do the led mod as planed but a lot sooner than i tought . The question is what led's to use.
i've found some 22Kmcd but is that over doing it?if i could put some thing like a pot to change the brightness it should be good?right? (i like bright screens so that im attaqued by a wild baboon i can make him blind and run away )

Link to the LEDs? It us unlikely they are 22,000mcd, at least at 3mm and a normal viewing angle.

I say you should use 8 3mm LEDs of decent brightness. If you really wanna scare that Baboon, you could take a look in my screen thread, I have strips of LEDs ranging from 4-38 LEDs.

Screwdriver + Inverter = You REALLY need some hand-eye coordination, especially if this happened when unscrewing things.

It would probably be more exciting if he did it while the screen was turned on with the transformer powered.

Yeah, 20 degree viewing angle.

They should work fine, but look for more realistic ones, like 1300mcd.

Hmm, looks like the incredibly bright ones run off of 12v. You will need a separate power source to run it, as the psone screen only has 5v available on the board. So if you use a 12v battery, then you will need a regulator to drop it down to 7-9v, or else you risk frying your screen. Then you could get the 12v directly off the battery.

they say they run of 3.8v max but they give free resistors for 12v for free i think

I guess you are right... but why would they do that? Give free resistors for 12v, I mean?

Because 12V is a common auto voltage and is also readily available in computers. The last sevearal lots of LEDs I bought all came with 12V and 5V resistors.

Problem:
the resistors are useless in this scenario:
Ohms decrease current, or amps, not pressure, or voltage.
In other words you would not need them.
