I heard that PS1's have a small chip that turns RGB into composite or some video output. Can someone show that chip and it's pinout?

I know the TurboGrafx I use converts RGB (NTSC) into composite (PAL), via a Sony CXA1140P chip, although I can't find any datasheets on it. If the PSone has a similar chip, that would be worth knowing about.

The chip you are talking about is the sony cxa1645 and they are indeed found on most revisions of the older psx on the backside of the board near the av out, also sega saturns often have the 1645 and megadrive 1s use the cxa1145 which is a similar rgb encoder.

Excellent links, Daftmike. The datasheet explains everything. Would it be suitable for VGA to composite/s-video?
EDIT: Using this circuit to convert the Hsync/Vsync to composite sync would work, right? Looks simple. Plus, the datasheet gives the circuit for NTSC and PAL. Look at page 10.

I think you're wrong. I checked a Playstation One (Old revision), another Playstation One (new revision) and a PSone, and none of them had that chip, or any chip with 24 pins.
