psone lcd mod to reduce the red. potenciometer + resistance.

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

psone lcd mod to reduce the red. potenciometer + resistance.

Post by v1p0n3 »

Hello, i'm almost finished bulding my video projector with a psone lcd but i'm unhappy with the red color on my screen.
i read about a mod to reduce the red using a potenciometer and a resistance but i don't know nothing about that. i have this image and that's all. this is hard to do? or i only need one of that resistances and one of this potenciometer and sold to the board like in the picture?
anyone to help me?

Here is in the picture :

the images i'm getting now:

if anyone can tell me something i would be very happy. maybe just a yes you only have to plug the potenciometer and the resistance to the board and that's all would be enough. and point me to sites where i can buy the potenciometer and the resistance.

thanks in advance

Well, the digikey stuff came in. :) Only took 2 days too! And I have a psone screen to test everything with. After I test everything, Ill get some prices to see how much it'll be to get to you. If sometime in the next few days you PM me your address, that would be great. :)

Get a video display and a certain magnifying lens I think. You could also make it brighter by remounting the lcd perpidicular with the lcd controller and putting a nice sized white light bulb behind it instead of the ccfl backlight :)

Yeah it's a bit like gannon said.

like this: light > frenel lens > lcd > fresnel lens > focal lens.

here is some picture of my box if you are interested.

In this case theres also a reflector behind the light and a mirror between the second fresnel and the focal lens (to let me make a smaller box)

hmm... with the way you have it set up the image would be upside down, right?
wait.... the lens reflects it, duh :P
Edit: How much did all those parts cost anyways?

yeah the lens invert and the mirror too :)
it was a bit mroe expensive that i thought it would be but i loved to do that and see that it worked. a 7" lcd would be much better but this is better than nothing :)

1x sony psone lcd (ebay) 75€
1x varifocal lens 285-330 mm 86€
1x fresnel +160 mm first lens +305 mm second lens/splitted
1x osram hqi-t 150w 76€
1x reflector 0€
1x condensator (from a comercial philips projector) 0€
2x 80mm fans (1 from philips projector 1 from local store)
1 transformator 12v (chinese store :jap )
1x mdf 12mm
1x mdf 3mm
2x switches
1x plug

I guess that's all

size of the box: 50cm x 21cm x 12cm.

The total price was between 270€ and 300€. I stoped counting... this price is counting with parts that i ended not using...

That si the coolest mod I've ever sen! Too bad the quality is probably WAY weaker than one oyu buy... Mainly becuase those use REALLY small LCD with REAL HIGH resolution, so when its projected, the crystals are about as big on the big screen as the crystal would be on a 5" LCD, right? At school, the projected image clearly has the small crystals visable, but they are about as big ont hat huge screen as the crystals on a Sony PSone LCD would be for the 5" display... Hard to explain! Very cool though... :D
