RCA Colortrak (1987) won't power up!

Post by Aguiluz »

Model FMR710TR, Manufactured Feb. 1987

I got this unit free from my relative. It used to work perfectly, however a child power-cycled the unit (turn on and off and on and off) many times and then it never started ever since.

I popped the back cover off and saw a blown fuse. Replaced the fuse with equivalent (125V, 5A). Screwed on cover. The unit was powered on and I heard it degauss (bkszm! sound). Then nothing.

No LED, no picture, no sound, no nothing. I unplugged and replugged and powered back on. Nothing. Not even degauss. Checked the power switches, nothing.

Help?

TVs carry thousands of volts of electricity, more than enough to cause you to permanently cease living. I wouldn't go messing around with it. Yes, 80s TVs with knobs and faux woodgrain are cool, but if they're not even close to functioning it's a bad idea to mess around with them.

But if you really insist on it, check to see if there's some kind of logic board inside that isn't getting power. Sounds like it's a power supply issue.
