No, Real carts have ROM, flash carts have Flash memory. If you could, it would likely cost more than a mass produced one and/or require a god amount of technical know-how.

Yes, you can. Same with GBC carts, you can mod them to act as flashcarts.

However, with a good, commercial 16mb flashcart costing about $8 these days, I see no reason to bother.

I'm not so sure. The GBA bus is using a weird read mode where some bus pins are being reused for both address and data, and the read/write operation takes place in two cycles. (Which it has to do to retain the pin compatibility with the older GB/GBC bus) I believe that most/all cartridges are using especially designed mask ROM chips rather than a stock ROM chip and a converter. If so, you consequently can't replace the ROM with a stock Flash chip.

most cart are indeed using masked chips, but you can find ones that use standard ROM chips, notably ones by companies that churn out junk on the same engine for different brands.

The Larry Boy veggie tales games are one example, whatever company that made that crap used the same cart design for like 10 other generic crap sidescroller games.

I could be completely misunderstanding, though. If I am, then yeah, just get a flashcart.

Well with the GB/C Carts all you had to do was replace the ROM with a flash ROM So i guess its possible but you may want to look it up. Does anyone have a flash linker GBA/Micro that there selling?

Why bother? DX still has GBA flashcarts really f***ing cheap.
