Hey... Canadian Modder here

Post by Bustinthejustin »

Hey guys, really like some of the work you guys have here! Been lurking around the forums for a while but finally decided to join. I'm not entirely new to the modding scene, as I have some past experience with PSPs, so I'm not a complete noob. I'm actually from shatteredmods.com and acidmods.com... Anyway, just saying hi and I'd like to ask a quick question while I have you guys' attention. As you may have noticed from my thread title, I'm a Canadian, and for those who don't know, EVERYTHING is more expensive here... And I've heard talk about being able to buy consoles much cheaper than here, such as being able to buy psones for like 10 bucks. So my question is, for those Canadian modders here, how much on average do you pay for psones, and just consoles in general? Just wondering so I know a good deal when I see one, and also I don't want to pay more than I have to.

Anyway, really like some of the stuff you guys do around here, keep it up!

Yeah, don't get your hopes up on that $10 PSOne. Check out thrift stores, those might have some for $10. But once you add on shipping within or to Canada, it really jacks up the price.

An example,

I got a Wii USB to Ethernet adapter the other day, shipped from China. $2.15 shipping, $10 for the item. It didn't work. I was going to return it for one that did, but return shipping was $8. Canada's shipping is full of fail.

Yeah I wasn't expecting cheap prices like that. Ebay seems to be having them around 30-40CAD shipped to Canada with anything between bare console, to console+wires+2 controllers+10 games... So how much do you typically pay for a psone?

Oh one last question I was always wondering... How come there seems to be a lot more fat ps1s than psones? I was at a pawn shop the other day, and they had like a huge bin of fat ps1s, but I didn't see a single psone in sight. O_O

Thanks for the welcome, everyone :)

Most likely because the older PS1 system are older, and both systems rely on lasers to read discs. The older PS1 system has older lasers, which die out over time, so people chuck them. The newer PSOne systems haven't had as many failures yet.

That's my guess.

And if you could get any system or screen for $30 shipped, that's a good deal. However, it could also just be a crappy screen or console, so watch out. Many people learn this the hard way, but nothing beats paying the extra money for a PSOne screen (You should be paying about $60 shipped for one of those).

Also because Sony's plan worked, and most people think the old Playstations are as ugly as sin.

Alright, that clears some stuff up. Thanks guys :)

As for doing any portable modding myself, I might eventually try it, but I don't have enough spare cash right now and I still like messing around with my PSPs :D I'm still gonna stick around though cause the stuff you guys do really impress me lol.

Edit: Damn... Most consoles cost 30 bucks just to ship lmao
