Need Monitor Recommendations!

So, my old, VGA only 18" 1280x1024 LCD monitor is crapping out. It sits there blinking the power light while the speakers make this "pop... pop... pop..." sound when you turn it on. Sometimes the first thing it does is flash the backlight on and off really fast. It does this for more than 5 minutes on a bad day, and then takes another 5 minutes on top of that to get up to full brightness. Best case scenario, it's a few bad capacitors. Worst case, the inverter's going.

It's old, has a fairly slow response time, and makes everything 20% too bright (have to compensate with drivers), so I want to get a nice new one.

NEED: Absolutely necessary, won't seriously look at monitors that don't fit these criteria

• At least 2 inputs
• The ability to switch between said inputs on the fly
• At least 11" viewable height (don't want these newfangled widescreens to feel smaller than my existing monitors)

Want: Would be nice to have, not a big deal if it doesn't

• 1920x1080 res
• HDMI port and HDCP compliant (connect an HD converter box for HDTV)

Do NOT Want: Won't consider. Period.

• No-name knockoff brands
• Monitors smaller than 20". (They'll be smaller than my current monitor.)
• Outrageously expensive models

Hopefully, the new monitor will come with the new Q9550/GTX 260 216 setup I priced out ($670). It's all a matter of money. Unemployment sucks. Waah.

If you have a decent monitor you can recommend, please post it.

i really like my dads hp w2207. its great, for video and everything. 2 inputs, 22", pretty darn high def. (1240x1860, i think)

I bought that back in January (paid $10 more, bah ). It's 1920x1080 21.5", and has served me well. It has HDMI (supports HDCP), DVI, and VGA inputs; I'm not sure about how easy switching inputs is though, I've only used the DVI. It comes with a free HDMI cable ($135 value according to Best Buy ), which is kind of nice, even though I have absolutely no use for such a thing at the present time.

I LOVE my 22" westinghouse monitor, its not the BEST monitor but you can easily find them online for under 175$ shipped, i paid that much with tax when i bought mine on black friday and i think they are even cheaper now. 1680x1050 resolution and great quality, the backlight is VERY bright (i leave it on the minimum) has one DVI and one VGA and you can swap them on the fly. only downside is i think its maximum of like 65 or 75hz refresh rate. im totally happy with it

Happen to know the model? (65 hz refresh isn't bad; I can't really see much of a difference over 60 on LCDs anyway. Not like the old CRTs, which were like strobe lights at 60 hz.)

see updated post, its an LCM-22w3. ive had it for over a year and have had ZERO trouble with it, the one slight nag i have is its a bit slow switching resolutions or inputs. just takes it a while to kick on.

About 10 5/8" (just screen not including bezel).

I've got a 20" Acer AL2002W in silver, while my dad uses the same one in black. Neither of us has had any issues with it at all. Only has DVI and VGA for input, and I'm not certain how long it takes to switch. Resolution is an ample 1680 x 1050 (almost full HD). Should be about $200, I should think. Bought it at Wal-Mart.

its 240$ tho im pretty sure he will be taking price into consideration. the LCD i recommended will cost him no more than 175$ to get, and if he looks he can probably find it for sub 150

I'm a fan of both Dell and Viewsonic. The Dells tend to have a lot of features and are very poseable (up and down, tilting, rotating) while I think the Viewsonics generally have a better screen.

The samsung t260hd is the one I have

1920 x 1200
2 hdmi, 1 dvi, 1 vga, 1 component, digital audio out, speakers, and even a coaxial if you ever need it.

I could go into more detail but you can just get the specs yourself.

there's also one called the t140, it's cheaper but only has 24" instead of 26

There are 2 models of each one, the normal one, and one with hd after the name, like t260hd, and t260.
The normal one has less inputs and is cheaper. If you only need those 2 inputs than the cheaper one should be fine.
