If I went and purchased an N64 that can output RGB (and I know where to get one), can I wire up the RGB signals to a standard NTSC PSone screen? According to my research,* it looks like it should work - I just want to ask the experts before anything is set in solder.

N64 -> PSone screen : best quality?

Re: N64 -> PSone screen : best quality?
I've tried it, but didn't get it to work with the pins lifted. I also tried it with all pins down, but not with C-Sync up. It'll work, people have done it before, but I don't know if it needs an amp or not.

Re: N64 -> PSone screen : best quality?
From what I've read you need an amp for it to work properly. Composite isn't a lot worse, on the N64 it's pretty good.

Would it even be worth the hassle for a 5 inch screen?XCVG wrote:From what I've read you need an amp for it to work properly. Composite isn't a lot worse, on the N64 it's pretty good.

I think someone did a comparison, they were just about identical.

Just go for composite, it's not worth going through all of the RBG modding just for the ps1 screen.

That's what I figured. It might make more sense if it was going to be hooked up to an HDTV...
So whenever I get around to doing an N64 portable (not for quite a while), I'll just use composite to PSone screen.

Re: N64 -> PSone screen : best quality?
RGB is mostly used just as an alternate interface because their composite is messed up, or if they get interference lines.
Re: N64 -> PSone screen : best quality?
Normally i'm all for RGB mods, all the time. But the N64 blurs the output by itself already on most 3d games, so its no big loss using composite.
