Horrible explanation. The first one, MOTHER, was released on the Famicom in Japan. It was translated and renamed to "EarthBound" but was never released in North America. 1995 "EarthBound," or MOTHER 2 was released for the SNES. More than ten years later we got MOTHER 3 on the GBA in Japan, but no where else. Then some rom hackers translated it and released a patch. Look up starmen.net for more information on the history and everything MOTHER.
