SNES Controller Chip...?

Hi everyone;
I'm looking to make a cheap homemade controller set for a small Arcade Cabinet.
After looking at Schematics it looks like the NES controller uses a 4021 chip for all the controls,
and 2 4021 chips ran in series off of PIN 11. So I bought 2 SNES controllers off of eBay to
extract these chips and place them on a new PCB so I could wire the controllers as I need.
Unfortunately the chips are tiny as hell and covered with a black insulator on the SNES controller.
I know for a fact the NES has a chip that can easily be removed.
Would the chip from the NES work in Series from to controllers as I am thinking?
I would like no know before I spent cash on 2 more controllers that may be useless...

I'm pretty sure that you got some knock off third party controllers, because nintendo snes controllers didn't have glop tops

LOL Yea
My pic worked when I posed it but then it went away, but thats what Im looking at
not to mention the soilder points look like crap too...
So what can I do? find 2 NES controllers or a orional SNES?
And will the 2 NES chips work together like I am thinking?

you can get 2 OFFICIAL nes controllers and take the ICs out of that I guess.

I don't get why people wreck perfectly good NES controllers for that chip. You can buy it at digikey way cheaper.

Official SNES controllers have a surface mount chip, but a gloptop will do the job equally well, and is a hell of a lot smaller and easier (provided you have good hand-eye coordination) than two NES controllers.

Now thats what I am talking about!!!
Digi-Key? I will check it out, if I can get the chips thats great.
Im using them to build my own PCB for an arcade cabinet and new chips would
be much nicer then trying to un-soilder old ones.
