Do not even think about the CPU route. That is the MOST timing-sensitive part of the board. I think you would have more success trying to TRIM rather than split the board.

The smallest board won't make the smallest portable anyway. It's already a lost cause.
I would say, make a board as small as SifuF's, use a smaller screen, and put batteries in it. That's the smallest you'll get.

Just spent a while looking hard at the board. The right hand part of the board will fail for the reason it already did; and thinking about the CPU route, that would be doomed to fail; even if it didn't there would be too much extra thickness anyway.

I think on reflection, it is time to put this ambition to bed; it looks like slicing the board is doomed to fail, so no point spending another wasted modding day to prove the fact.

jjhammerstein - No, if the N64 board was reduced to the size of the actual PSone screen then it would be smaller than any other N64 portable; however, doesn't look like it is possible.

Ok, I will declare this project dead and move on - I will complete the TurboGrafx board tomorrow by placing in the cells, make a case top and mount in the game cart, and also experiment with making a switch to switch between US and Jap games. I can then proceed to cutting the holes in the case, etc.

I was going to run this project alongside an N64 (to fit in my case), however have decided to make the TurboGrafx portable first and then the N64 one, as I have spent so long on the TurboGrafx board so far, and I am keen on playing its games - also, working on two systems at the same time can get confusing. You know how to see my progress on that project if you want to, I will of course post some pics in the News section when done. It should be awesome when done; especially as it will be in a red and black colour scheme!

so you didn't even cut into your third board? I think that was smart instincts. just go with your portable in your case, that case is very, very nice, and pretty small.

Will do. Comes a time you need to admit defeat!

robm - Thanks. Hopefully someone with electronics experience might be able to take up the challenge!
