WTF?

I was taking some of my old albums and digitizing them to cds today. About ten minues ago i was reading something about dvd backups and it said the you can only back up something on its original medium ie dvd to dvd cd to cd
well that means record to cd is illegal
what aboutn reel to reel tape.
cassetes to cds
those basterds

I've seen kits that do vinyl and cassette to CD or Mp3, and tons of places are selling these, anyway, most great cassettes/vinyls are available on CD anyway.

Does this mean I cant back up these Evangelion tapes I just got to DVD. I'd reather not have to spend $170 on the damn things, when I have what I want right here.

Also yeah its illegal but as long as the "nazi's" dont get you your fine. Besides corrcet me if I'm wrong but as you buy something like a CD, DVD, or something simalar its techicly yours. So as long as you dont disrobute it to the public or seel illegal copies your not doing anything really bad.

That's the biggest point. If you don't distribute them, and already bought the tape/record/whatever, than there is really nothing they would even want to do.

This is how I built up a massive mp3 collection: buy albums at Goodwill/Salvation Army. I got 10 albums for 5 bucks a couple times, and 45's are only 50 cents.
