Wire gauges
what gauge wire should I use for smaller close together pinouts? I recently tried 22 gauge wire but it proved to be difficult to solder onto the A/V pinouts of a dreamcast. Any suggestions?

I like using wire from old phone / Cat5 cables for most things. It's easy to work with and we have heaps of it.

22 is about as large as Id ever go inside one of these. I think the wire on my expansion pack was 30 or 32.
