How does one coat something like quenched and tempered steel in diamonds?

Any information involving coating and diamonds would be helpful.

That sounds like it'd be an unholy kind of expensive, lol.

My best thought would be to somehow grind the diamonds up into diamond dust, cover the metal in glue and roll the metal in the ground up diamond dust...but somehow, I doubt that'd be a good thing, nor would it do what you're thinking of.
