Question on system requirments on a PC Game

Post by DJ711 »

I want to play Portal and I system checked it and it says I meet the publishers minimum requirements. Does this mean that the game will run really slowly?
I haven't been here in awhile, and looking back it's one of the worst ideas I ever had. I'm back and I'll be here for awhile, I was quite active 1 year ago and I hope to become that again.

This means the game will run fine on the lowest graphic settings.. Anything higher and you might run into lag.

If you just meet them, it will run in low, if you are a little above, you can turn the graphics up.

I have seen a few topics that are computer related questions on forum 42 lately. I don't wanna complain just want to make known we have a board for this kind of stuff.

If you just barely meet the system requirements, add this to the launch options:

Code: Select all

-dxlevel 81
It will force Portal to run in DirectX 8 mode, which can help with your frame rate.

Is there a way to force DX9 SM2?

Alright, I answered my own question. It runs beautifully, no lag, no nothing. I think I got lucky.

If it also uses steam, yes.

I was looking for a console command.

That is the command, but it isn't console. You add it to launch options. IT will always load the game with that option aslong as it's typed in in the launch options.
