R Button Probelm - PSP

you never mentioned, is this a 1001, 2001, or 3001?

If its a 1001, you probably need to clean the gray silicon "squishy button" (has anyone ever found the technical term for those damn things?) and the place where it contacts the ribbon cable. If there is dirt there it will keep it from making a good contact. In your case, it sounds like either you didn't put it in right so its getting smashed all the time (does the button push normally?) or there is some conductive material keeping the circuit completed and making the PSP think the button is pushed down. I had a Genesis controller like that once.

nobody cares enough to make a short name. If they have to talk about it they say that soft pad underneath the rubber, or conductive contact membrane

Membrane is what I usually call them. Pad works too.
