Hip Screen - Orange cable.
Hi Guys, I need help.
I found out that my hip screen has a crack in the orange cable that connects the screen to the board.
Can this be repaired in anyway? the crack is quite close to the screen do you think I could cut it level then feed it into the screen? not sure how to remove it from the screen connection, it just pulls away from the other circuit board side.

Not sure if it still works, I was checking it overbefore wiring it up to a new xbox motherboard and noticed the crack.does the screen still work? if so it is fine. Are you talking about the ribbon cable (it is very wide) if it is broken then maybe you could find a replacement at a computer store, or in another electronic device.
Its not in a ribbon cable similar to a IDE cable but a thin plastic clear orange cable where you can see the traces, its the small thin type that connects the screen to the pcb.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

replace it with another what I didnt think they were generic?jeep wrote:Oh, I got many of those that detached from the screen, just remove it, replace it by another one and solder it, but before, try it, I think it should work well.
The following image shows the type of orange cable I have a crack in, the one connecting the screen to the board.
I have pulled the one end out of the board on my hip screen which can be fed back in, the other end is quite solid inside of the screen, not sure if there is a way of getting this open to find where to solder.
Not a hip screen but the quickest image I could find that shows the orange cable. Thanks

You couldn't replace that kind of cable unless you are an expert solder-er. Even if you were you would still have to find a cable that fits.
Try turning it on to see if it works. If it does then put some epoxy on the cable to prevent further breakage.
I'm curious, how did you break it in the first place?

I had the screen wired up to my old xbox, which I blew the motherboard on, shorted something when I cleaned up the wires with cable ties!
I removed the screen and put it in a static bag on my shelf and forgot about it, its been there for a few months and the other day I got it down to see if I could put it on my new xbox motherboard, then I noticed the crack!
Its only cracked across about 3-4 of the traces but I guess that this is enough to cause it not to work, I could wire it up and see if it will display anything.
Im not an expert solder-er so I guess if it doesnt work I will be buying a new screen anyway, so my solder points on the motherboard wont go to waste.
Im looking at the 2.5" screen I mentioned in my other thread, looks pretty good and should be able to use the same type of mod as the hip gear screen.

well, look up the lcd model number, you might be able to find a working one without a controll board for cheap.
I will take a look later to see what I can find on the LCD, is there any good site I can get one from?
I know its possible but the traces are tiny and I dont think Im that good to get a connection on such a small trace. Why don't you connect the two with thin strands of wire?
Thanks for the replys, any further info would be great
