I did that, bought one with a bad disc drive, got a FlatMii. Problem solved.

I was a midnight launcher as well, although I didn't get to play mine for the first week because I had a faulty power cable. LONGEST WEEK EVAR.
Nintendo sent me a replacement right away with expedited shipping, though.

I was the first in my town to reserve it and get, and I know that for a fact because gamestop was the only place having the midnight launch. I live in a small town.
