I have a friend who is up-to-date on almost all technological terminologies for the things he has, every catchphrase and saying people around him use, all of the nicknames for things in the games we play, but he and his brother STILL call their XBOX 360 controllers "paddles".benheck wrote:I hate when people call any game controller a "paddle".

...pardon, but are you sure you know what you're saying here? They still have storage, just solid state. This does not mean we should refer to it as memory, as memory refers to the fast-access Random Access Memory (RAM), not the storage medium, be it a set of spinning platters or a wad of silicon. We still refer to it as storage.nevermind1534 wrote:But the newer iPods without micro drives do have memory.palmertech wrote:The "memory" confusion is all down to what people are taught. Does anyone else rage when people pronounce the word, "pwn," or its derivatives out loud? I can tolerate it from certain people but mostly I hear it shouted A LOT by people who are new to gaming and think it's still used everywhere they go. It really gets to me when they pronounce it, "pawn," as in, "I just totally pawned you," or, "You got (dare I try to convey the pronunciation with terrible spelling) 'poned'." Irks are to be had around me constantly.

"Poned" is correct, as South Park established this to be the official way to pronounce it.

It probably stems from the fact that Atari 2600 carts looked like 8-track tapes... sort of...weaponepsilon wrote:I always hated when people called carts "Tapes". WTF? However, no cartridge after those really looked like them, did they? So why did it continue?
People who use hopelessly outdated terms are funny/annoying.

Pwned is actually pronounced as "Owned".
Atleast the guys from purepwnage.com (Jeremy and Doug) tell me it is. (I live like 25 minutes from them.)

I also follow this rule as established by Jeremy. It makes sense the way they put it in the show.

Also people who are a PITA in L4D and tell you what to do.
And little kids playing online and thinkin they be da boss.
As well as people who abbreviate sayings, and make words shorter then they are...

I just typed it as "poned" because a lot of people think I'm trying to say something that rhymes with downed, which is not what I want. I guess my attempt at making my life easier blew up in my faceasdfjkl; wrote:you hopeless idiot. everybody knows it's pronounced pownedBiased wrote:Does anyone else rage when people pronounce the word, "pwn," or its derivatives out loud? But it's still memory (flash). I don't say that, but it is technically correct.Bibin wrote:...pardon, but are you sure you know what you're saying here? They still have storage, just solid state.
