sorry, i feel like a simpleton for asking this, but this is my first portable so go easy. but is it really worth it to LED mod the screen? about how much battery life do you save by doing this? are the any other advantages to doing it? disadvantages? other than the chance of some slightly uneven lighting.
also, are there any alternative mods to the LED mod?
thanks.

It can save significant power at the cost of slightly uneven lighting. Some people, even experienced modders, don't bother. Others use more than 4 LEDs, but that doesn't save much power compared to stock lighting.clpahr wrote:sorry, i feel like a simpleton for asking this, but this is my first portable so go easy. but is it really worth it to LED mod the screen? about how much battery life do you save by doing this? are the any other advantages to doing it? disadvantages? other than the chance of some slightly uneven lighting.
The other consideration is this: the affect on battery life depends on the system. Lower-power systems (NES, NOAC NES, etc) use very little power, so if you LED mod your screen, it will make a bigger difference to your battery life than on a system that uses more power, like PSone.
I look at it this way: you can always go back later and LED mod your screen if you decide you want the extra battery life. Just don't hotglue it down too much!

You save enough battery power. According to Mario: 700ma unmodified, 400ma after LED mod. Although I beleive it is less than 400ma, like 350ma. So half. That makes a big difference!
Oh, and contradictory to what eagle5953 said, all of us experienced modders do the LED mod(cept bacteria). It's actually really easy.

I was aware of Bacteria's position - I simply figured he wasn't the only one. My bad.
If you have a 700ma that you get down to 350ma, and you're doing a portable that draws around 500ma, you reduce power consumption by about 30%. Significant, yes, but in the end it's your call.

Arrogant much?ShockSlayer wrote:Oh, and contradictory to what eagle5953 said, all of us experienced modders do the LED mod(cept bacteria). It's actually really easy.
Really depends on the application. If you're making a high-power consumption portable, it might not even be worth it. I'd suggest it regardless.
