overclocking help

Post by stuntpenguin007 »

I followed the tutorial at gamesx to overclock my n64, and I soldered pin 112 and 116 of the cpu to +3.3v but now my system refuses to boot. The website reported that they had a similar problem, but were able to make it boot with just one wire going to +3.3v I'm about to try that, but what makes this happen. how do people overclock their systems to X3 ???

edit: I removed both wires, and the power led still won't even turn on. I did leave it in the car for about 2-3 hours in freezing temperatures one day, and I haven't even tried testing it until just now after the mod. Do you think the cold may have caused it to quit working?

you can't put both of them to 3.3v, one of them has to go to ground...

oh, I just listened to this web site http://www.gamesx.com/misctech/n64oc.htm and they told me to put them both on 3.3 volts but oh well. I guess if I've undone the mod and now the power led won't even come on, I guess it's done for.

crappy website I happened to have favorited wrote:In practice however, nothing happens at 2.0 - at least, nothing that we could see. And at 3.0x the machine refused to boot - every game just locked at a brown screen soon after powerup. You may get better results - it's possible the systems vary a little, with some allowing the higher clock speed. It's also possible this entire operation is a silly prank - but no matter, we can safely say that it doesn't fry your N64 - nor does it cause any unusual operation. Doesn't get hot, doesn't cause bugs. Give it a shot, if you're bored. Chances are you're not using your N64 much anyway. =)
 retard, read the whole thing.

Retard read the whole thing
jk :D

anyways I cracked open the power supply and jiggled around the cord and now it powers on. too bad I removed the overclock mod :( now I have to do it again.

edit: so if pin 112 is unlifted/untouched can I assume it's set to ground? I got the power light to come on with pin 116 set to 3.3v but theres no picture, so do I need to do pin 112 too?
