Yeah, seriously. The forums are fine as it is. "Fixing" them so that posting is limited to a select few or moving to another place solves absolutely nothing. Just ignore what you don't like, and it'll go away. That's how I've been dealing with it- the only reason I even really noticed that "something was wrong" is cuz of the mass of people female of the dog species about stuff. Honestly, the only thing that's changed is vb_master and Link89 trying to start some movement to go somewhere else. Personally, I'll have none of it.

Alright, we've all given our two cents, so lets go over what we've found out.

First of all, we are not happy with the direction this forum is taking. Most of the change is in forum 42, but many fear that it could spread to the rest (some already think this has happened). The problem for the most part is immaturity. Spammy posts, useless posts, etc.

As for fixes, we've gotten two main sugestions.

One is that we kick up authority around here. More locks, bans, etc. But there is a catch to that. If people are as immature as they seem, all that will end up happening is that they'll keeping acting immature untill we either close this down, or everyone simply looses interest. That's not good.

The second suggestion came up recently. That is, everyone needs to take indivual ownership of their actions. If we all really want to get this forum to fly, we'll need everyone here to help build the wings (if you know what I mean). Now, there are people one or two people who need to banned, but I think we should keep as many people on board as possible.

This forum is alive because we have so many people who care about, not only what it stands for, but the people involved. We can't let human nature (that is, the nature of self-destruction) get in the way. We must stand together, or fall apart.

Thank you.

Maybe this is because there are too many <13 yr. olds here?

Oh, and stop including me into causing a movement/worse problem. It's was Link89's idea, not mine.

Flaming happens naturally on every forum. Live with it.

Sorry if this thread is like anarchy, it would be cool if someone would delete it, and we all can forget about it.

I think that locking would solve problems. In other forums, mods will shut down a thread if its been asked before, or if the initial question is answered, and I wouldnt mind having that here.

Maybe you mean <13 well I have tried to stay out of this thread. Everybody just think before you post and treat others how you want to be treated.

The fact of the matter is, it's you who makes these threads, so that does make you involved.
I know you're not really trying to start trouble, but you also can't go around blaming others for things you did. You obviously thought it was a good enough idea to try and rally support for it.

I'm sorry if people find what I'm saying as flaming, but I'm merely stating my opinion (the opinion that this forum is fine as-is, though apparently guest posting is presenting a problem). You're gonna have people say stupid crap no matter what you do, so it's just something we've got to live with. If this becomes a problem, let those people know that free speech doesn't live here, and that this is the United States of Ben Heckendorn. Ignoring idiocy is the only option that is realistically available to us. Why?

- Bandwidth is really not the issue here. Most of the bandwidth being wasted is talking about wasting bandwidth.
- You ban someone, they'll find another way to get on. They could just guest post at this point, or on another computer. Banning is really difficult to do in practice. It's all well and good to say "Ban this person!" but they could just make another account on another machine.
- Moving to another forum isn't going to solve anything. All of the people, and all of the problems will follow. Some might just be slower than others.

In short, we just need to stop talking about these issues. Guest posting should probably go the way of the dinosaur, but other than that, these "issues" everyone's so worried about are unsolveable, so deal.

ya know, Ben did disable guest posting earlier today, and even started threads in 2 different forums about it :)

I've always thought that temporary bans are a good idea. Not too harsh, not too lax :)

Being w/ Benheck forums since the old days (Early '03, i think) I can definitely say the forums have changed. For the fun of it, i compared 10 randomly selected posted of this forum to 10 randoms of the other forums, and HOLY HELL! THAT IS A HUGE DIFFRENCE! Anyways, I think people are being too short tempered. Legit posts are turning into flaming wars. I cant visit this forum as much as i used to, as it pisses me off too much. Just, someone, go to the old forums and read. Notice a difference. Act the way we used to. The worst thing that happened to the old forums was GUNGFU13. Now, it seems like we have about 6 (not naming anyone...) Gungfus here.

THE GUNGFU GUY

Post by RNS0504 »

Basically, Gungfu was a lying spammer. He came on (senior members, correct me if im wrong...) telling us he built the first portable PS2. We knew he was lying, so we asked for pics. He then told us his garage burned down, destroying all his portables. He spread this out through about 3 threads. Then, ha came back saying he made a solar-powered ps2. We, again, asked for pics, and he refused. Then he made about 3 threads saying things like "IM SORRY" or "I HATE YOU ALL" "PLEASE FORGIVE ME!" He told us he had something called liesyndrome that made him lie a lot. We had fun with that one. Finally, he made his 12th thread, telling he hated us and hell be back and we won't know its him. He left for a while after stareth offended him by saying "*puts up sign* DO NOT FEED THE TROLL!" He was banned from the forum, but came back w/ a new username. However, nobody trusted him, so he left and found a new forum to spam. And don't even get me started on PETERDUCTTAPE.
