It took quite a while to obtain it (not going to say how) but I finally managed to, err, borrow the 2.3.1 developer's seed build from the internets, and one of the few new things I found within it is the ability to use the iPod or iPhone as a USB host! This means that tons of peripherals (with drivers) may be connected via the dock connector. In this video I demonstrate how a keyboard can be spliced in.
So yeah, anyone who has the build ought to go give this a try.
