Exactly. There is a point where performance shouldn't be cut just to gain some battery life. If your using something as low powered (Not really low powered, but lower powered than a desktop) for more than an hour or two, what is the point? Get a good Desktop or a good Notebook.vskid wrote:Personally, I'd rather play a game for an hour, than watch a slideshow thats supposed to be a game for two hours. Because Maybe people would want to have something that others dont. That why I would actually use the ION to make just one handheld system. Like devote the IOn to be either an N64 handheld or an Xbox-esque handheld.

If this could actually be done, even if it were larger than anticipated, it would be amazing. I had considered something like this using a pico-itx board, but the performace wouldn't have been worth the cost at all. This would address both issues.

You will just have to get on making an Xbox emulator that works well then.ninjamonkey wrote:Because Maybe people would want to have something that others dont. but yeah, good luck getting a good XBOX emulator.
anyways, if I were to purchase something like this for a couple hundred dollars, I'd definitely make it a multiplatform emulator. No point in dropping that kind of money just to play one console. I'd better get NES, SNES, Genesis, PS, N64... etc. on there if I'm spending that kind of money. Probably some other PC games as well just because I can.
Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
Apparently Cxbx works pretty good, but it's actually a recompiler. Remember, XBOX games are native x86 and DirectX 8.1
Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
interesting. So does that mean it doesn't need a dynarec for good performance?XCVG wrote:Apparently Cxbx works pretty good, but it's actually a recompiler. Remember, XBOX games are native x86 and DirectX 8.1
Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
Cxbx recompiles then runs.

Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
Well since that is the case, from what I believe, it is open source. If someone wanted to continue developing it then it might not be that way. It wold also be helpful too..
Edit: actually in the lastest udpate on the cxbx website they are still making progress. Right there is actually one playable commercial game; Turok Evolution. Its not a bad game, its fun with the blackhole cube and explosives arrows.
If anyone is up for it heres the link to the source code download:http://www.caustik.com/cxbx/download/Cx ... Source.zip

Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
11.1v is definitely enough to run this, but 7.4v would be even better.
http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?P ... rodID=3175
3 of those laying along the back would have final dimensions of 141mm x 92mm x 5.4mm.
That's just a little more than your original 5.5" x 3.5".
The battery would be 2.5Ah at 11.1v, which is actually pretty good for a handheld. The question is, will it be enough?

Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
Hey, just curious, anyone here up for developing a Pandora-esque handheld with the ion? All the ION really is is the ITX pico mobo with intel atom processor and nvidia 9400 graphics chip.
edit: possible bad news, heres a quote from mini-itx.com (date; Feb 4, 2009)

NVIDIA have built a small number of units to demonstrate the graphics chipset that they would like to see power the next generation of Atom-powered netbooks later this year. Sadly, the world's fastest Pico-ITX isn't going to be available in the shops any time soon (or perhaps even at all).

That's what the game controller shell is for.
It can run games comfortably without being dismissed as a toy by the adult market.

Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
Yeah. Can the atom handle such gaming?
(My Nvidia 8800 or so can do COD5 on the lowest settings at full speed, or at least very playable speed. This is at 1280 resolution)

Re: Nvidia ION Handheld - Opinions?
Are you considering this for mass production, or for personal use?
If you're going to make a portable out of it, I wouldn't bother with multiple shells.
Put the controls you want on it, and leave it at that.
