A question in another section sparked my curiosity.
In dealing with electrolytic capacitors, how could you look at values if you wanted to replace them?
let's take the Ti regulator for the N64 as an example. I used a 100 uf 36v capacitor. What are the important numbers and what different capacitor value could I use?

Hooking capacitors up in parallel is the same as hooking up resistors in series. So if you were looking for a quick replacement, you could use more than one following that rule. I wouldn't, though.
As a general rule for replacing caps, it depends on the part. Some are hooked up to ICs where the capacitor determines the timing of something, or some other crap like that.
However, you'll most likely run into filtering caps if they're electrolytic, most others seem to be surface mount nowadays. If this is the case, a large farad value won't affect performance one bit. It might even improve it.

so you're saying for most, theoretically you could take one that is 1000uf with a 36v and it wouldn't hurt the connection? but the voltage rating would need to stay the same?

You got it. I stress that it depends on the use. That is strictly for filter capacitors, where stray charges (voltage spikes) charge the capacitor instead of, for example, going into your speakers or system's voltage regulator.
