Damn Small Linux 1.0

Post by MM007 »

Well, I finally got Damn Small Linux on a CD and it runs beautifully, even on the 50MB minimum space. I'm running the OS off of my CD ROM drive as I type this instead of XP. It even comes bundled with firefox! I'm gonna try to get it to work on a thumbdrive...

Although I think DSL is nice, I hate it's debian base. It runs so crappy.
I do like live boot distros though, they make it easy for trouble shooting crappy computers :)

Is there a similar distro that is based on Gentoo?

EDIT:

Wow John's finally released the offical first version. This has been like a year in coming.

As far as DSL goes its a great little distro for x86 based computers. I issue is that many of the programs like the word processor lacks some functionality I'm used to (could copy my termanal history to it) but its something cool.

If I get a chance to resolve the issues I have I'll have it on a CompactFlash card and a 128mb USB drive. Isnt it a versitable little thing :D

Edit - Scherzo, check out this. The distro Slax was created off of this so I'm sure if your a big linux guy you'll use it to make your own distro.

FIrst I'm running off of a DSL LiveCD, now I'm using a Linspire Live CD...and I have had NONE of the driver problems I've had with Windows so far with either of the OSes... Linspire is 10x as large, so it itakes a bit long to load...
