Invisible creatures in Spore

Post by limpport »

(I want to know how many people rolled their eyes when they read the topic line :P )

So I ended up buying a Macbook (thanks to everyone's advice in a previous topic!!!), and I have Spore installed. I can do all forms of the creature/building/vehicle creator without problem, but my creature (and everything else) is invisible in the main game. I've searched around the internet for topics about it, but nothing for Macs. I've read that clearing the cache for the game can fix it, but I can't find where that is on a Mac.

(EDIT: w00t for 600 posts!)

The new version of the 13" white, so it has the same graphics card as the aluminum ones.

Well, excuse me for the first time having a Mac instead of a PC. :x It's too bad that anything that comes up about Mac just has to be sh@t apon. I'm sorry for the mini-rant, but I'm sick and tired of it. If you need to whine, write to Apple, and see if they give a rats behind. Because I sure don't.

Do you have the latest patches installed? What version of OS X do you have?

According to this post on the Spore forums, setting the lighting quality to low or turning shadows off fixes the 'invisible creatures' bug in some cases.

Maybe not the answer you were looking for, but try installing Window by using either Boot Camp or VMWare Fusion, and see if the game runs correctly that way.

I do have the latest Spore patch installed, and I'm running OS X 10.5.6. I have also tried setting all settings to low, but that didn't work.

I was trying to install XP last night, but it keeps getting stuck when it says it has 8 minutes until installation is complete  . It happened both times I tried.

Yeah just ignore him, he doesn't do anything but be negative about pretty much everything anyway

And a mac is a PC. It just costs about twice as much (as one with windows of about the same specs), has OS X in it, and is made by apple. Although they aren't bad, I don't like mac OS as much and they are overpriced.

Enough trolling.

Anyone who tries to make this a Mac vs PC flamewar instead of helping him get his game working properly from this point on will be bumped up the warn/ban ladder.

Yeah, turning this into a flamewar between Macs and PCs would be pointless. Because Linux so completely outclasses both, that the argument is a moot point.

When you are installing XP, is it an official copy or... Ahem... "Obtained" copy?

I will let that comment slide for now.

Ditto on the Spore game.

Spore is up and running. HORRAY!!!!
I tried the cache clearing thing in Safari, but I'm not sure how that connects to the graphics card.... :D

The XP was "obtained", only because I was trying to get Spore to work. I'm going out sometime this week and picking up the real deal.

And my GALACTIC EDITION (oooo, ahhh) was bought the day it came out. I got it home and found out that the graphics card in my desktop was not up to snuff. So I've had to let it sit for months and look at it longingly.

Try updating Boot Camp. And make sure your disc comes with, or is slipstreamed with SP2 (Preferably SP3) Google is your friend on how to do that. ;)
