Question about OS's and Emulators
JUst today I got this idea. Lets say someone used an Nvidia ION motherboard to make a handheld. Would it be possible to take an online n64 emulator ( I mean just that, an emu like mugen that you can play online with) and made it into an OS and put on a blank CPU chip (if even possible) and make that its operating system?

Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
Not impossible, but I'm sure it it would be very difficult, seeing as you'd have to code it yourself, unless somebody already made something similar.

I bet you could rig up a MAME front-end to work with some dumbed down Linux OS.
The application is very similar, it seems to me.

If that works, it could be a solution.jjhammerstein wrote:I bet you could rig up a MAME front-end to work with some dumbed down Linux OS.

Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
The way you said it? No.
For the same result? Yes.
Me and Grossaffe were just discussing this an hour ago.

Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
The only reason I ask is because I was thinking of making some sort of handheld thats mainly an n64 and that you can play online with. also, because I plan on buying an pandora sort I dont want to make something that has everything on it. Just one or two things. Cause I think the pandora is going to be one of the best handheld out there now.
Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
as mentioned earlier, get a small OS, write a front-end to be able to load all your emulators, and write a script to launch your front-end on startup. very possible and could be very effective.

Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
could be only one problem, I don't know how to code. I just put these thing out there so that maybe some one would get inspired and do it and run with the idea.

Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
People (Including me) have had the idea for a while, and the knowhow. The reason nothing happens in t hat it is expensive, and power hungry. Those are the only real obstacles.

Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
ARM Cortex A8, last I checked. Default speed of 600mhz, stable overclock to 900mhz. A lot faster per cycle than an Atom, though. It has 256mb RAM.
I will be getting a Pandora if it emulates N64 60fps for sure.

Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
Maybe faster than an atom, but the Atom is x86 which has a much larger software base. And an ION based handheld could be a serious threat.palmertech wrote:ARM Cortex A8, last I checked. Re: Question about OS's and Emulators
to the pandora?
edit: my idea, wasnt just an ion handheld. more just an n64 handheld but not and original n64 handheld (not like the ones people have made on this forum).
