A totally insane idea that just may work...

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

I think the expansion port for the NES (unused) contains connections for the controllers and composite out.

In my theory (which would be impractical, argh), doing this on a NES would be more possible. Fit all the web-browsing innards on the NES cart, make the web browser controllable with the NES controller and make it output via composite.

This discussion involves doing something that is not just tough, not just complex, but something stupidly difficult. It's like trying to make a screen without composite work for a portable. Technically, it can be done, but no one does it because it is both impractical and extremely difficult. It might as well be impossible.

You can still talk about it, but realize that it just isn't going to happen. No one has the skill, time, and desire to even attempt this.

I think what a lot of you are forgetting about doing something like this is. You do it because you can.

Really think of the guys that do things like build Compact flash card reading expansion cards for the Apple ][e, or even the blue tooth adapter. Do you really need things like that on an 8-bit computer? The former, maybe if you want to save a ton of games and you don't have a disk drive (or disks). The latter, really who needs blue tooth on a computer like that?!

And even more punch there is a group that built a networking card for the Commadore 64 that would enable you to use a text based browser to (in a manner of speaking) surf the web.

Having a web browser on an N64 would be cool as hell, I have no argument with that. Would it be hard? Sure as hell too. Even if you built in on a bread board with a cable going into the console. You'd take months to build the card, firmware and then of coarse you have to see if you can get a browser built.... that might be the easiest part.

If you want to do such a thing, great! and good luck!
