My broken xbox 360 journey (fixed rrod)

Post by stephen0205 »

well i bought an xbox 360 off of ebay, £55 that had 3 red lights.

i read a lot of guides, watched a lot of videos.

It was made in 2007 and had not been opened.

So it came and i removed those dreaded xclamps, new artic silver 5 paste, back together and away it went, i made a video of me doing this, timelapsed, took bowt an hour, first time i had done this.

(its the one with the flames)

so it worked, 2 weeks later, it still works, well kind of

it developed another fault, it seems to play games and video dvds for about 5 mins and blink, away goes the picture and soundd, the console is still on, and dosent get 3 red lights.

Anyone have any idead

Sorry if this is a long dead topic or if you've given up/fixed the problem.

If you only replaced the x-clamp and the arctic silver paste, there might still be a problem with what the RROD had to do with. You might need to do some soldering-related labor to the motherboard's soft, vulnerable underbelly to get down to fixing the actual problem.

hi, yeah i fixed it, a while ago, guess i should update threads

em yeah i opened it again, tightened the xclamp fix, cause i didnt do it that tight, just till the biting point and no more, and then i baked it for 3 mins, and it has worked ever since. no problems

it still needs a new drive in it, but it works, the one in it the now makes a like grinding noise, but it dosent damage the disks, its very uneasy, bt it works, i just load games to the hard drive, as i mainly play online anyways

thanks tho, i didnt have to solder.

Xbox 360 Unplayable Disc Fix, NOT a magnet issue
Found this last night while contemplating buying an as-is 360 that won't read discs. Maybe this'll fix the problem? Basically it just says to take your disc drive apart and remove the piece of the motor that the disc goes onto and clean any jelly or grease off of it, and to spray or rub WD-40 onto it. I'm not sure about what the part's called, but I thought I'd just tell you before you watched the video in case it doesn't work or if you have a different disc drive than the one in the vid. Enjoy, and good luck.

Yeah sorry I actually was referring to the weird noise problems because I hear strange scratching noises a lot of the time on my friends' consoles before they say there's an unreadable disc.
