PS2 Portable questions/ Approval

Okay, I want to make a ps2 portable, but I need to run some questions by someone first. Is it ok to connect a psone screen directly to a ps2 slim? I'm wondering if the 8.5V for the ps2 slim is too much for the psone screen. If so, do I need to build something like an "Adjustable Voltage Regulator" to reduce the power? I had meant to use a battery like this battery and hook it up directly to the ps2 and then if I need to, let wire up a voltage regulator. What do you guys think, should I drop the voltage just to be safe?

Also, would you suggest using multiple batteries such as three of these hooked up together or just one like I mentioned above? If I wanted to, I could get enough battery for 12V and then drop it down using Aguiluz's post. Is that a better way to go?

I've never made a portable before, but I think I can get it together if I figure out the whole power issue. The rest of the info regarding how to hook up everything up should be on the site. Or if I run into a hick-up, I can always try asking...

My plan is to try making the portable similar to a ds lite, but with a Zenith xbox/ps2/gamecube screen (or psone screen if that won't work) and use psp razor nubs for the analog sticks on a built in controller. If I can, I'll try to post a design, if anyone cares to see it. Thank you for any help you guys can offer.

you can run up to 9v to the screen. And that's pushing it. You can run it with 8.4v and be fine. you won't have excellent battery life, but that's a PS2 portable for ya.

If you used three 3.7v cells to make a battery you would definitely need a regulator for the screen, but that voltage would be fine for the ps2. You'd have longer playtime, as well.

The zenith screen is the same thing as the psone screen, but usually cheaper.

Thanks for the help. So you can put 12V straight into a PS2 Slim even though it takes 8.5V? Or would you have to drop the voltage on that too?

I thought I read that you could put it in directly, but I was wrong. You have to take it down. Try this thread and see if you can figure out what needs to be done.

I looked at that earlier, but I was trying to avoid something like that if I can though it seems I may have to. Even still, it should be possible to run the ps2 off a ~8.5V battery right?

Definitely. If you cared more about playtime than size or money, you could even get two of those 8.4v batteries.

so to keep the voltage from going up with two batteries, would I wire them in series or parallel? Sorry I can't remember my engineering classes anymore. I just more life, not voltage that I'll just have to drop anyways.

parallel. that's where you wire each battery's + together and each - together. and then to the portable.

yeah, I couldn't remember which upped the voltage. Thanks though... Looks like I'll try to find a few batteries and hook them all up. Btw, does anyone know about pcbs for li-ion batteries? Specifically how to hook them up to the battery.
