Sorry if this has been posted before, but I figured since I made a video on it I may aswell show it here. The video shows how to remove nintendo screws without using anything special.

Nice explanatory vid. Used a similar tactic to remove the 4 screws from a Gamecube I snagged cheap.

Once the pen is all hot and melty, you really need to jam it in there hard, and let it sit for a bit to cool.

Works well, but know this: you need to push down hard the first time you turn it or you will spin the pen and strip the mold you just made (ended up with about half a pen due to repeated re-moldings).

Me too. Four screws, one pen.

The gamebit that I got from ebay was extremely low quality; after opening a few consoles, it had started to wear (strip).

I got a gamebit a while back, used it to open several N64's and today, a Turbo Grafx console (uses same screws). Using a proper screwdriver is worth it in the longer run!

Is the Zoozen game opening kit any good? It comes with pretty much all the opening tools (gamebit, torx, etc).

Without a picture of the set in question, it's rather hard to tell.

For a 30-piece set for 15 bucks, I would have to say that the tools used are probably your standard run-of-the-mill units you'll find for sale in any Radio Shack; either the newer-style plastic-handled design or the older metal design with the splined handles. The problem with that is that the newer style coming out with the plastic handles are rather crappy - the bits tend to spin in the handle, making the removal of any screw requiring some torque completely impossible.

But on the other hand, 30 screwdrivers for 15 bucks? You'll spend almost that for 8 to 10 of them at Radioshack anyway, and you'd still not have the gamebits.

That won't work. The trick only works because bic pens are made of polycarbonate.
