Definition of theft is to "permanently deprive someone of something", so copying software or downloading it isn't "permanently depriving" as the original is still intact and unaffected (as long as you don't use its activation code), and if you had no intention to buy the software (especially if it doesn't do what you are led to believe it does) then there is no loss on something that hasn't been permanently deprived or would have gained revenue anyway. So, don't feel guilty Twilight Wolf! (any more than singing "Happy birthday" to a relative or humming along a tune or whatever). This is however as long as you obtain the software strictly for own use, haven't paid for it and not passing it on. This therefore becomes an issue of copyright, especially if you don't torrent it; not theft, which is a different thing entirely. Taking something material, is permanently depriving, is theft in all senses of the word. Anyway...
you justify software theft however you like, to a lot of people its just as bad as actual theft. you pirate a peice of software, music or a game that you could have otherwise purchased you are depriving the maker of the revenue from that lost sale. if at any point you would think "wow is is great, i would have paid money for this" congratulations you are a thief no matter what way you try to rationalize it out

its perfectly ok to steal a 1500$ software suite but not a 15$ pair of earbuds because its not a tangible good? sounds like hypocracy to me.

This thread isn't about the morality of stealing, whether you guy's like it or not, if Cennar and Cowsgoquack want to steal, that's their decision, your opinion of it will not change their thoughts. Leave em be.

On a side note, Canada does have Circuit City, it's just in the form of a smaller store named "The Source". It replaced the majority of the Radioshacks that we had when they all decided it was a good idea to leave Canadian hobbyists out to dry.

Yes, I think we've straightened out that issue quite enough.

Let us now stick to the topic at hand (Circuit City deals).

bacteria: who the hell is deprived from Palm Pilots and headphones? This is coming from someone who makes his money from selling software.

I don't sell software.

The shop / auditors are deprived of the items they had lifted - they have a value to the owner, even if small.

I haven't downloaded any software I shouldn't have for literally years. So there!

Stick up for your friend, that's fine. I don't hang around with shoplifters, that is your choice. If I found out my best mate did that, I wouldn't hang around with him though.

Aww, will you be my Valentine Skyler? :D

Anywho, I didn't steal the headphones themselves just the earbuds that go with them. But, like I said earlier it'd be nice to get back on topic.

Well, I just got back from the stores (needed some lights), and they're still pretty expensive.

The closeout company jacks the prices sky-high, then a week later they throw the "X0% OFF!" signs up everywhere.

For example, you can get the floor model of some netbook from a company I've never heard of for $315. (More than a brand new Aspire One form NewEgg.)

Or 4GB of DDR2 667mhz Kingston RAM for $90, marked down from $125!

1 TB Western Digital external hard drive, only $250!

EDIT: Should've taken pictures. I forgot my new phone has a camera. (I must be getting old already.)

How is the sexy "Socom" headset? I've heard nothing but good stuff about it.

Now, if only I had enough upload speed to use the one I've got now...

It's interesting how it seems that certain stores around the country have been doing this. Luckily, the ones around here haven't done anything of the sort. It's too bad, because if you're near one of the stores that is on the up and up you can get some good deals...

At micro center, you can get some stuff for better prices than what newegg has.
