N64 handheld?

Would it be possible to make an handheld sort of like the DS or psp or the Pandora,but it only being used for an n64? like maybe use the NEC mobile900c, due to the Nintendo uses NEC chipsets?

Think N64, now think DS. It would be silly to think that an N64 could fit into something the size of a DS.

Now as for the clamshell option, the N64 is rather big, so making a clamshell would make it very awkward to hold, and also very heavy, thus the lack of clamshell-style portables. At least this is what I would think.

I agree, not the best idea.
When you do something like that, the whole machine has to be the size of the largest component, in this case, the motherboard. You're wrestling with a DS that's 6"x5", and fat.

I would advise against a clamshell.

I think that I have the most experience here even if my portable is not a very good example.
It is good for playing multiplayer games becauseit just rests on a table but those hinges will be the death of me.

I've done some designs and doodles and seen that it will always be smaller and more handheld
as a single unit, not a clamshell.

Only reason for making a clam shell N64 portable is for the top half to house the screen, N64 board, speakers and controller; the lower half to house the controls, batteries and game cart; however, you will end up with big issues with the joystick housing, issues with hinges, etc - too many pitfalls.

On a sidenote, as you guys know, when I finish rebuilding my project room (see the "show your workstation" thread in Forum 42) I will make my N64 in my existing case. I will then make a SNES one in my case (Retro Duo) - then, before making other systems, I will make another N64 portable - this one should be the smallest made to date, period. If I can make it work, the system will be barely more of a footprint than the PSone screen itself, making it mega small; controls on side (will take planning), vacuum formed case, using a PSP joystick probably. I will document the project in full. It will be far smaller than Sifuf's, if I can pull it off...

Wrong - if you want to make a point, at least do it accurately - the definition of "bragging" is to "boast" and "implying exaggerated claims and often an air of insolent superiority", and "boast" is defined as "bragging about a possession".

Therefore, if someone brags it is because they have something you haven't and know it, and want to rub your nose in the fact. You won't find any instance of me "bragging" in any of my posts...

I was relaying my intention to attempt something. I was thinking about "how to" last night; certainly, an intention is not worth making a thread about - I was just thinking out loud when posting a reply in this thread - after all, a lot of posts here often shoot off at tangents! An important thing in project work is to set out goals, each one harder than the last, that keeps life interesting. I don't want to make "an 8th of whatever" I prefer to make each system dramatically better than the last one; so for me, I have a personal goal of making the smallest possible N64 in a few months time, it will be a major challenge.

Quiet, all of you! And bacteria, that's a terrible Idea for a clamshell.

Instead, have the n64, batteries, and contols in the bttom half, and the PSone screen in its original case attached to the top. There, now you have clamshell, with some decent hinges. I'll do it if you'll pay for it.
