Anyways, I was looking through my past posts today. And came across that old topic on mine. So looked through it and thought, hmm I wonder if that old Browser will work under Vista. So went to the link I provided in that topic. And I downloaded the old browser once again and installed it. And to my surprise, it worked like it did when I had it on XP.
Now I know from reading the old thread of mine. The browser is most likely nothing more than a VB browser running on IE with a custom interface. And from what I've seen it do today, it is. (It opened a the form link on the benheck.com homepage in IE.) But still, this browser is nearly 10 and a half years old. And there has been a lot of changes to the line of Windows operating systems since Windows 98. And the fact that Vista can be a total jerk with programs of this age.

Anyways here are some screenshots of it running under vista:




I may try and see if it works on Windows 7 too.

The code was written using the instructions at http://www.microsoft.com/ie/buildbrow.htm with some additional code taken from David I. Schneider's An Introduction to Programming Using Visual Basic 5.0 (Prentice Hall, 1988). Code creation and compilation were done using Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0 Enterprise Edition.

DISCLAIMER: I threw this project together in maybe three hours, including the time required to compile and package the installer (using Microsoft's Setup Wizard). Needless to say, it has not been extensively tested, and I can't guarantee results. I have installed the browser on machines running Internet Explorer 4.01 under Windows 95 and 98. It should also work with IE 3.0, but I haven't tried it because I didn't have a properly set up machine handy.

I just tried it on my computer running Windows 7 and it works fine.

Something to try would be the Spry Mosaic browser. It's still available for download. It worked on xp, but I don't have a 32 bit OS installed on any of the computers that I use (at home) any more, and at school, they still have xp. It didn't handle a lot of new stuff, but other than that, it worked well.

Unless the creator wrote a custom web browser module, it's just Internet Explorer with a new shell. Aside the fact that it's useless, I don't see the point of this topic...

It works in Vista. He was just saying that it was amazing how something that old can still run just like it did back then, but on a modern OS with modern hardware. Did you know that you can't run win95 with a 3GHz+ CPU?

You can run Windows 95 on modern systems if you want to, by using VirtualPC; it allows you to run any other OS (even Linix, etc) as a shell.

There is one nice thing about his browser - no ads or whatever... Doesn't have a "favourites" I notice, however, with a little tweaking might be a nice, compact and quick browser nightwheel - planning to upgrade the browser?

i didn't make it. But i may try my hand at tweeking it a bit if i feel like it.

I thought the ads were on, I don't see them, thanks to Adblock Plus and also NoScript. It wasn't the ads that I found annoying, but having words underlined so anytime your mouse happens to run over them they run something else - including on "font" when posting a reply - that I found so annoying!

When i get the 3.1 roms for my A1200 and pick up an ethernet or wifi card (PCMCIA on a computer from 1992 with ethernet AND wifi support!) i will be able to browse benheck on my actual a1200 so i beat you bic!

motorola 68030 @28mhz with 68882 FPU (when i can afford it lol)or maybe as high as 45mhz if i can find a crystal to OC it! 128MB of ram! powerPC cars for the amiga are crazy expensive (hundreds to over a thousand dollars) and even 68060 cars are $$$ (half a grand more or less )
