Scavenging iPod Touch parts:

Post by jjhammerstein »

So, I borked my iPod.
I was taking it apart to fix the home button, and I snapped a ribbon cable.

The long black one on the right.

It's not repairable.
What should I do with what I have?

I have:
-A bunch of tiny screws
-A 900mAh LiPo cell
-An iPod Touch LCD, perfect condition
-A complete iPod Touch case, crap condition

It seems like a waste to do nothing with it.
And ideas?

No.
It's integrated into both of the boards it's connected to, and it has 15ish connections per centimeter. So I can't fix it either.

Do you have any idea where my micro-usb cord is? I can't find it.
No cord, no pictures.

I'll describe it the best I can.

It's a kind of cable I've never seen before, it's black.
It looks like a credit card strip. At each end, it's goes straight in between the board layers.
Looking at it from the cut, it's paper thin and shows no signs if traces.

The damage is that it's totally separated. not straight across, but close.

Here is the first suggestion: Buy one with a cracked screen on ebay, and fix it.

They're still expensive, even broken.
It's an 8GB.

Plus, if you buy one, fix it, then sell it, you will actually come out of this with some money. The only things useful are:

The 8gb flash chip

The battery

The backlight and diffusion panel from the screen. (I may be interested in that)
And yes, craiglist is a good place to look.
