Is there a playstation 1 modchip?

there is one, they should be plentiful on the internet. I have a modded playstation and have enjoyed it a lot.

Do you have a PlayStation (the original, grey, brick-like one) or a PSone (the small, slim, white one)? If you've got the PlayStation, how does it have a parallel port on the back? If it does, you don't need a modchip; just get a device called the GoldenEye. It's a GameShark/Action Replay-type device that I'm pretty sure allows you to play copied games. I have one myself, but since I have no burned PlayStation games, I've never tried it.

Another modchip-less method is the swap trick. Look up "PlayStation swap trick" on YouTube and you'll find plenty of instructional videos, but it looks bad for the motor...

Those are the free/no-modification-necessary methods. However, if you want a modchip, they're probably the best option over time. I have one for my Saturn and I love it.

There are actually numerous PS1 modchips, of course, most are no longer available.

Now, if you've got a PIC programmer and a spare 12F629(?) you can go ahead and whip up one yourself!

I've been googling it. I don't know which one would work, and it's not like I plan to steel them, they are just really scratched up.

Why not just fix your discs?

I like using that Scratch-X stuff for cars. (Any kind of color-universal, clearcoat safe compound should work.) Swirl that stuff all over the plastic side of the disc, completely ignoring the "NEVER GO AROUND LIKE A RECORD!" warnings, and you should be able to get most of the scratches out. It worked great for some beat up Gamestop finds. I've heard Brasso works too.

Heck, once I was able to salvage a data CD by spraying it with Pledge furniture polish. Of course this was with an old 24x disc drive I didn't care about, but it worked for one last read.

I would try to fix it but it literally looks like someone took sandpaper to it. I think it's pretty much impossible to fix. Any way I can't find one on google.

Try looking for an MM3, or a OneChip, or an Old Crow.

If anyone wants for than $5 for any of those it's a ripoff.

Here's a really easy way to play copied games. You just need a Gameshark and a spring.

Put the spring on top of the button that the lid normally presses down. This will make the PlayStation think that the lid is always closed. Then start up the PlayStation with the Gameshark disc inserted. Once it comes to the main menu, the disc will stop spinning. Take it out and put in your game. Then, choose to start the game, and it should start up. You can now close the lid if you want, just be sure to keep the spring inserted.

Thanks monkey, I think there's a guide on that website too for wiring it. I wanted one for wiring so I wouldn't have to use that disk swapping trick every time.
