Hooking composite video from a TV into VGA Port on PC?

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Hooking composite video from a TV into VGA Port on PC?

Post by HotDog-Cart »

Hey guys. I have a question.

Is there any device that will allow me to plug a composite screen into a VGA output port on my laptop?

(I have a little idea for an upcoming device of mine, but this is the only brick wall.)

So basically, my laptop has a VGA Output Port (For extending the monitor, or displaying the same desktop on a seperate screen.). What I basically want to do is, plug a composite video cable into that, so I can display my laptops screen on a "TV".

Is there any type of device that will allow me to do this? (Like a converter box or something?)

(Also, by composite I dont essentially mean Red, White, Yellow cables. As the Red and White cables carry audio. We all know that VGA does not output audio.) So basically I need some type of converter box that will allow me to plug a "TV" that has a Video Composite Cable into my VGA Output Port on my laptop.)

yep!

There's a lot of them out there, here's one example.

Just remember, these are best for videos and emulators. Normal screen-size text will be nearly illegible, even through S-Video.

Thats fine, as I'm actually only going to be using a fullscreen program with it.

Some of you may know where this is going.

So essentially I'll only be watching video from a fullscreen program.

I'm sure that will be big enough.

Which ones the best one for the price?

I found one on the street that outputs everything, and by that I mean RGB, S-video, composite, and RF.
