9 hours straight, my hands are tired so I'm taking a break. LED and speaker mod done. Controllers are nearly done being wired. Just another hour or so and I can see if this thing actually works. Monday I should have the rest of the parts to get started on the case.
I'm having trouble locating 1/16" thick aluminum, even from places that sell only metal. The only way to get something of that thickness is by buying a very wide sheet, and I don't believe I have the proper equipment to cut aluminum accurately. Even if I can cut it accurately, I would prefer to keep the cost down as much as possible. Also, any suggestions on nylon spacers? All of my local chain hardware stores did not have the proper size. All of the places I have located online only sell in bulk amounts of 100 or 1000.
I don't think that would kill a battery pack...unless you left them hooked together for an extended peroid of time.

Wired together. Something caught the soldering iron and I moved in the wrong direction and hit the screen. I killed a pixel or two, luckily no more damage was done. The color seems pretty dull, even at full brightness. Going to do some more testing before I start working on the case.
You can always do the connection jump that will make the screen MUCH brighter. That might help with the dullness of the screen.

Is that referred to in the book? I'll probably try that out tonight, as well as get the sound going.
Does anyone know where to locate 1/16" thick aluminum in strips? I still can't locate any. Doh.
edit: Also, I had a minor issue when I wired the Nintendo up. The screen flickered and I heard some sound, but it was obviously not working. After a few seconds I realized something was giving off a "burnt" smell. I kept testing and couldn't find the issue until I let it run for about 10 seconds. The resistor connecting all the LED's was smoking. Apparently I had both of the left LED lead's touching the metal screen. I had to take a fair amount apart just so I could file down the metal frame a small amount. After that was done, it worked! Well, as soon as I got the cartridge perfectly level... (15 minutes)
Home Depot and Ace Hardware do not have them, I'll be trying Lowe's tomorrow. If Lowe's doesn't have any strips, I'll be purchasing a big sheet and cutting it to size myself. Expensive, but I just want to get this done so I can start on a SNES project.
Because I wanted to learn before doing something nice. I've been doing very time consuming projects for a few years now (instrument building) and it's never a good idea to go all out on your first go-round. That's why I purchased a kit from Ben to save me some time, so I can spend more time on figuring out the most difficult part for me - electronics work. Which is also the most difficult part for me in instrument building.
It may be a while before I even start the SNES project, but the experience gained from this will certainly help me plan accordingly for it.
I found everything else at Lowe's. Although the aluminum was a bit too long (6') and the spacers have too large of an inner diameter, I can make everything work for this project.
I finalized the wiring, now I have a new issue when powering up. The screen gets very bright and distorts a great deal, the volume/brightness bars are distorted / bright. I wasn't having this issue before when powering up and I can't seem to locate this specific issue. Has anyone ran into this issue before?
