PSOne Smallest Mobo GUIDE!! Update!!

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

I just foud out that the brightness mod(bridge) only works for composite!!. I have a switch on it to see th diffrence in image but on rgb is just stay's the same.

Any thoughts? I did a 8 LED 20.000mcd mod on my screen and brightness is good now but rgb still has a very dark image. Caps in between don't work bridge mod don't work. Even with the original backlight it is still very dark.

I'm using LM1881N to get csync since pal GC don't output csync.

I really want to use rgb although composite with brightness mod with brightness all the way down look pretty good also.

What's their to read? Just look and move the components. You don't need to read anything for that.

Behold, as I talk out of my ass in a feeble attempt to help you.

What is your RGB source? Have you tried putting some caps on the individual RGB lines, or possible building a RGB signal amp? If the RGB image is dark, I would place my first bet on the source ebing the problem (And just because it works on a normal TV does not mean the source is fine, many TVs have a built in signal amp to account for problems like this).

haha any help is welcome. The rgb source question is a bit silly. I'm talking about the PAL GameCube.

The thing is a PAL gamecube outputs rgb but not with c-sync. PAL TV's use rgb like that it would seem.
Now the psone screen needs c-sync so i use the lm1881n chip to get it. Which works.

Without caps in the r,g and b lines image looks alright but still darker than composite. With caps image gets much much darker. So cap's do the opposite of what they do on a US GameCube(i think :?: )

A rgb signal amp might be an idea. Any idea's how to make one? Goes of googleing

But what I find weird is that the brightness mod only effects composite. RGB signal doesn't get any brighter when the cap is briged. Hmm i might look into S-video output on a pal gamecube.

Check the SNES forum for the off-site RGB guide. It's got a basic amplifier for the RGB lines. Really easy to do, actually.

Great guide. I'm glad you took a risk for all of us, trying that out!

That part on the left, you say that's the sound chip? Couldn't you cut that off, and build your own out of some LM785's (is that what it is?). If you made it really small, you could actually save space.

I usually stay away from the brightness mod; The capacitor you are bridging is a contrast filter for the composite video line. When you bridge it, it completely removes the contrast tuning, so you end up with a washed out picture and blurry edges, and in the process gets rid of the voltage drop on that line, making the picture brighter.

So, in short, the only way the brightness mod works is if you have composite. :(

I found this n64 rgb signal amplifier:

http://www.eurasia.nu/wiki/index.php?pa ... RgbBooster

This should work no? I'm gonna buy the parts today and see if it works.

The brightness mod is only washed out when you have brightness control up to max.I use 20.000mcd really strong 3mm LED's. So I just put the brightness all the way down and picture looks really great. Crisp picture less bleeding. and the brightness control now actually does something

The side is indeed only the sound chip. But what's weird is when i removed it the screen was messed up. Weird lines etc.. So i get the feeling something their is needed for the screen to function properly.

Crap rgb booster doesn't work..... I get a weird picture with colors messed up and weird lines.. Hmm I just might give up on rgb :? PAL gamcube doesn't output s-video either so i'm just gonna have to live with composite. If anybody has any idea at all about getting a brighter picture with rgb from a pal gamecube let me know.

Try putting a potentiometer in line with each signal, start a 0 resistance, and turn it slowly. The input levels on these things are tricky sometimes.

EDIT: stupidity removed.

hmmm I could try that though I doubt it will do any good. I don't believe it is a resistance issue.

I've read that the rgb output of a pal gamecube works at it's brightest without caps. Any resistance would make the picture darker.

I'll try it anyway and see if I have any luck :)

I was saying put the resistors AFTER the amp. One reason it may be showing weird is that it boosted it too much. :(

Most real TVs have correction for this built in, but the PSone lcd was only made to work with the PSone.
