PSP 2001 video cable questions
OK, I keep hearing that you can only play games on the PSP if you use RGB cables, is this correct? Even with newer firmwares? why? Why is it compatible with composite for video, etc. but not games?
My other question is if my TV is compatible with the PSP output: its a CRT and it has RGB inputs, so does that mean its 480p? I've read you have to have a 480p compatible TV to play the PSP on a TV, so can anyone enlighten me that RGB hookups=480p compatible?

Re: PSP 2001 video cable questions
you gotta be kidding me, NOBODY knows?
Re: PSP 2001 video cable questions
I don't know where you got this info. The PSP cannot output RGB. It can output component and composite. I'm not sure about S-video. The good news is that SCART has connections for composite and S-video as well. You can buy an adaptor or build a cable yourself. You won't get 480p but you won't get it with RGB either. I think the 'games need 480p' thing is a lie (like the cake
), but you'd have to ask someone else.

You could, like, I don't know, read the manual that comes with the PSP...
Or possibly, like, a copy of it online.

Re: PSP 2001 video cable questions
Well, I'm calling component RGB because it has *gasp* red, green, and blue cables that are plugged into the TV. I don't know what SCART has to do with this as this is America and I don't use communist televisions. Looks like I'm just going to have to buy the cable and hope for the best.XCVG wrote:I don't know where you got this info. The PSP cannot output RGB. It can output component and composite. If that was supposed to be a joke, it wasn't funny.17daysolderthannes wrote: I don't know what SCART has to do with this as this is America and I don't use communist televisions.

Re: PSP 2001 video cable questions
Sorry about the SCART thing. I was assuming that you were in Europe because you kept talking about RGB.
Component Video is YPbPr (aka YCbCr or YUV) which means the green cable is Luma (brightness), and the blue (Pb) and red (Pr) cables are COLOUR DIFFERENCE. This is where it gets weird. Pb is the DIFFERENCE between blue and Luma, and the same goes for Pr, except with red. You may be asking where green goes. It doesn't go anywhere. The TV has to decode the YPbPr signal into red, green, and blue. There's some weird math to do it but I'm not that technical. Sync is on the Luma line I believe.
RGB is a way different story. It actually sends the value for each colour. Sync can be provided on a separate line or on green. There are actually two kinds of RGB. The first is 15KHz (sync rate) RGB, which is used by game consoles, arcade monitors and TVs that support RGB. The second is VGA, which is 30KHz I think. This is used by computers, computer monitors, and newer consoles.

No you can't play games with composite.
I don't know why, but you can't.

Russia isn't the only country that uses SCART.
Far from it.

Re: PSP 2001 video cable questions
The PSP-3000 can use composite.
The reason the 2001 lacks composite for games is that it lakcs the hardware needed to do it efficiently, simple as that.
